Comfort for Critters

~ Celebrating 11 Years & 67,000+ Blankets ~

who is cfc...

Comfort for Critters is a non-profit organization that creates free handmade blankets to comfort homeless pets living in animal shelters across the US. We donate over 1,000 blankets every month, to over 200 shelters, which are in every US state!

While these pets await adoption, the blankets provide a comfortable bed year-round. When they are adopted, their blanket goes with them, providing something familiar as they adjust to their "forever family."

what are "Remnants Reborn"?

We call the handful of blankets we sell "Remnants Reborn" because each blanket uses only leftover yarn, and represents all that we hold dear:

  • Each is hand-crocheted by Linda using the simplest of yarn. We believe comfort isn’t complicated.
  • Each uses the yarn we have left, after making our shelter blankets. We believe in never wasting what we’re given.
  • Each blends a wild array of colors and textures, much like the pets found in shelters. We believe mutts are the best “breed”.
  • Each is handcrafted with love, not perfection. We believe that machines strive for uniformity, we embrace creativity and variety!
  • Each blanket is a one-of-a-kind creation, so no two are alike! We believe this about the pets we comfort too!

Help our mission and comfort your pet with a Remnant Reborn!

Here's why your purchase will make a difference?

Around the time I was frantically crocheting my first blankets, I ran across this story. I think it captures the mission of CFC, perfectly.

The Star Thrower

One day a man was walking along a beach. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. Off in the distance he could see a young boy going back and forth between the surf's edge and the beach. Back and forth the boy went.

As the man approached, he could see that there were hundreds of starfish stranded on the sand as the result of the natural action of the tide. The man was struck by the apparent futility of the task. There were far too many starfish. Many of them were sure to die. As he approached, the boy continued the task of picking up starfish one by one and throwing them back into the sea.

As he came up to the boy he said, "You must be crazy! There are thousands of miles of beach covered with starfish. You can't possibly make a difference."  The boy looked at the man. He then bent down and picked up one more starfish, and threw it back into the sea. He turned back to the man and said, "But it made a difference to that one."
