Comfort for Critters

Celebrating 10 Years~Helping our pets & all those we can't adopt!

august 2017 CRITTER NEWS!

BIG NEWS...Together we donated a record number of blankets to animal shelters in July. I can hardly believe that we delivered so many blankets in just 31 days!!! Drum roll please....

1,189 blankets given to shelters in July!!!

This surpassed our last record, which was 1,161 blankets in July of last year! Thank you to everyone who helped make that achievement possible. Over 40 shelters were supported (some with more than one donation during the month!) and our creations made it into 16 different states.  Of course none of this would be possible without the 66 crafters and supporters who helped. Thank you all!

I can certainly see, and my inbox can attest, that CFC is growing by leaps and bounds. All great news! I've come to the realization though that I need to shift my time a bit and put more focus on fundraising. I close out every month by shipping every last blanket that I've received at headquarters out the door. My postal carrier backs up his truck on my driveway, routinely, on the last day of the month! I never want to hold back, due to lack of funds, so you'll see a few changes to the website and a few more "promotions" by me.

I'm going to drop all the advertising from the website, for starters. These ads help pay for only about one box a month, and I find them annoying (bet you do too!), so they're just not worth it. I am considering some other promotions so that non-crafters can help us AND get something in return (rather than just making a donation). We'll see what I come up with! As always, I welcome your feedback. It's truly a team-effort, after all!

With amazement at what we've done,
Linda

kids + toys = spoiled shelter pets!

During July I received the nicest surprise of over 100 cat and dog toys! I love to include a handful of toys at the top of every box I ship, and these arrived just as I was running out.

They were made by students at the Graham Elementary school in Naperville, IL. They made rope pull-toys, in all sizes and colors, for the dogs. They also created adorable ring-toys for the kitties. The cat toys used gallon milk jug rings as their base, which are a favorite toy of most cats. They softened the ring with small pieces of tied-fleece. So creative!

A big thank you goes to Ms. Finelli and Mrs. Skrip, who are the leaders, as well as all the members of the Kids Care Club at this excellent school. The pets will surely enjoy these extra-special treats!

Shelter "Thank You's"...

"On behalf of our staff and furry little friends. We thank you for thinking of us and greatly appreciate the blankets!!" ~ Animal Welfare League

"Thank you so much for the lovely crocheted cat blankets. We appreciate your kindness and generosity. Some of our cats and kittens are already enjoying naps on their blankets!" ~ King Street Cats

"The staff and the animals here in our care at the Front Street Shelter want to acknowledge that we received a wonderful donation of blankets for our animals! The blankets are going to our Petco Adoption Center. Please know that this donation will be used to directly benefit the animals that we are sheltering. As you know, our staff works very hard to provide a healthy, safe and loving environment for the animals here at the shelter. Again, thank you for caring!" ~ Front Street Animal Shelter

"Thank you so much! I have several kittens that I'm working to wean and place, and the blankets will be a blessing for us. It's a challenge sometimes, trying to help control a population and keep up with enough food for everyone, that comfort items are sometimes a luxury. I have no doubt that our kittens will be thrilled to have a special blankie that they'll be able to take with them to their forever homes. Thank you again!" ~ Feral Cat Rescue

What CFC Volunteers Have to Say....

I love to hear what volunteers say is their reason for helping CFC, and more importantly, helping pets! Here's what they'd like to share. If you want your comments, and reasons, shared...please email me (info@comfortforcritters.org) or use our website form. Thank you!

  • "I am doing a community service project for 4H and I wanted my club members to understand the importance of adopting from shelters. I also have two cats and have made these for them and they love them. This is a great way to have my 4H club help out in the community while having fun doing it and learning about helping others. I think that the blankets will help the animals that are in the shelters to stay warm and comforted. They will also be something that they can take with them to their new homes." ~ Sarah B., Columbus, OH
  • "I love animals (I'm studying to become a vet) and I love knitting, so this is the perfect chance to help the animals!" ~ Amanda D., Rexburg, ID
  • "I like to knit. I love animals and I thought making blankets would be something I can do to help comfort shelter animals. I think the blankets will help to provide comfort to very scared animals." ~ Mary E., Newton, NJ
  • "My reason for making blankets is that I would love to help the animals. I think the blankets will make them feel safe and warm and most of all loved!!! I just love helping animals." ~ Susan W., Keyport, NJ

Feed Pets ~ Help People!

I know CFC volunteers and supporters are always on the lookout for other ways to help all those pets which they can’t adopt. One wonderful opportunity is to help feed the pets of families who may be struggling a bit financially...
